At JAH we are proud to be chosen to carry out Electrical Contracting work for NHS Hospitals in England, including Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust’s Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, Devon and Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust’s Yeovil District Hospital in Somerset. We work directly for the NHS on some projects, on others we are proud to work for and with other companies, such MTX Contracts. Below you can read about some of these important and sometimes challenging projects.
Derriford Hospital, Plymouth, Devon
New-Build Modular Outpatient Unit – working for MTX ContractsOur Engineers who were assigned to this project worked 12 hour days, 7 days a week for several weeks to complete our part of the work on this time-critical project. The project was completed snag-free, and everyone involved was delighted. In the Health Estate Journal, January 2018, Steven Hartley of MTX Contracts, said: “…a local electrical firm, JAH Electrical, proved absolutely outstanding in undertaking not only the electrical installation, but also fitting the nurse call system and lighting. The firm was first-class, not only in terms of speed of working, but also attention to detail.” Steven Hartley, MTX Project Director 
Air-conditioning work We carried out air-conditioning work on various levels at Derriford Hospital. This job was tricky: firstly, due to us needing to work in the public corridors; and secondly due to us having to shut down the distribution boards to enable us to carry out final connections, as we are no longer allowed any live workings. These works needed to be completed by the end of March ’18. I am pleased to say that we and the mechanical engineers we worked alongside, completed the project on time and to budget.
X-Ray Room – working for MTX Contracts We needed to begin work on the X-Ray Room at Derriford on 5th March ’18 without final drawings, as there were amendments to be made by our client’s designers. To avoid any delays to this critical work, we started on the mains intake power & distribution. This project presented us with a number of challenges, which we have needed to overcome:
- We were not able to install to our usual method due to partition walls needing to go up first.
- We then needed to install specialist containment for the equipment for Siemens X-Ray equipment.
- We were asked to get the steel trunkings powder coated to give it the perfect finished look within the main X-Ray area.
We have enjoyed working to find solutions to enable us to successfully overcome the challenges this particular job has presented.
Office Refurbishment at Derriford Hospital We expect to start work soon on an office refurbishment project. The work will be carried out by our Engineers over 2 weekends, in order to minimise disruption to staff. And, we look forward to working with MTX again soon on the Derriford Car Park Modular Building project.
Yeovil District Hospital, Somerset
New building work – working for MTX Contracts The project at Yeovil was a new modular building added onto the end of the existing hospital to create more office space. Our Engineers stayed in Yeovil during this 4 week project, as it was too far to travel each day – and it was also during the recent snowy weather.
