Electrical Inspections & Testing for Homeowners
It’s essential that electrical installations are periodically inspected and tested for safety purposes, as well as to conform to current industry standards, which is why we offer a wide range of electrical testing and inspection services for homeowners in Plymouth and across the South West.
Importance of Inspections
There are a number of electrical testing and inspection services that we can provide to homeowners, from fire alarm inspections (for wired alarms only) and PAT testing to full electrical inspections, that should be carried out every decade.
An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is sometimes referred to as a landlord check or a home buyers survey and involves the comprehensive inspection of the electrical installation in a property. It’s recommended that homeowners have an EICR carried out once every ten years, to ensure that the electrical installation is in safe working order. As part of this inspection, we’ll check the condition of your switches, sockets and light fitting, as well as the fuse box.
This inspection helps to establish whether there is overloading to the circuits, any defective or improperly performed work, earthing or bonding issues or the risk of fire, accident or electric shocks as the result of a fault. This not only will help to keep you and your family safe, but it will also help to save you money in the long run, as any wear and tear can be identified and remedied. The report is in a checklist format, so that you can easily see whether any work is needed (which we can quote for) and understand exactly what has been inspected and why.
If you’re planning to sell your property or being renting it out, you should get an approved electrician to perform a full EICR. We also offer electrical testing services for landlords, which should be carried out at the end of every tenancy and then every five years from there on in. As NICEIC approved contractors, we’re authorised to issue EICR reports for homeowners, landlords and businesses.
