In our latest ‘Meet the Team’ interview, we caught up with Gareth Bond, a longstanding member of the team to find out more about his hobbies, interests and role at JAH!
How long have you worked for JAH?
Quite a long time now, it’ll be 7 years, next February.
What’s your role at JAH?
I’m a qualified electrician and I work on domestic, commercial and industrial projects across Plymouth and the South West.
What’s the best thing about working at JAH?
The team, without a doubt, everyone gets on really well.
Which project or job are you most proud of working on and why?
Definitely the improvement works we carried out at Derriford Hospital. I was the site foreman for the job at the Recus Unit and had 7 electricians working for me to complete the project. The work was time-critical, so we worked 12-hour long days to make sure we got everything finished. I’m really proud of what we achieved there.
Which three words would you pick to sum up working at JAH?
Friendly, varied and challenging – in a really good way!
Did you always want to be an electrician?
No, I didn’t! I’m rubbish at sitting still, so I always wanted to do something manual to keep me busy, but I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do. My mum worked as a secretary for an electrician, so I saw behind the scenes a little and thought it looked like something I’d enjoy. I also heard that electricians earn loads of money, so that was a good incentive to get a trade as a teenager!
How long have you been in the trade?
I’ve been in the trade since I was 16 and began my apprenticeship after I left school.
When you’re not at work, what do you like to do?
I work a lot, but when I’ve got the time I like going to the pub and watching motorsports.
If you had three wishes, what would you wish for?
Oh, I’d definitely wish for a bigger bank balance, wouldn’t everyone? I’d probably also wish for a Range Rover (My dream car) and to go back in time and pay more attention at school!
If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?
That’s a hard one…probably the power to complete works in an instant, no matter how complex they were. That could come in really handy during some of the more challenging jobs!
What’s your dream holiday destination?
I think travelling around Australia sounds pretty fun, the beaches and big cities would be somewhere I’d love to visit.
What would you say to anyone who was thinking of coming to work at JAH?
Definitely do it, it’s a great place to work.
