In our first ‘Meet the Team’ interview of 2020, we caught up with Jason Le Grice from the JAH team to find out more about his role, interests and passion for adventure!
What’s your role at JAH?
I’m an approved electrician, working mainly on commercial and industrial projects; with the occasional domestic job.
How long have you been at JAH?
I started working for JAH 6 years ago as a sub-contractor, before becoming an employee 3 years ago. I’ve known Jamie for a long time though, in fact, he was actually my apprentice many moons ago!
What’s a typical day in your role like?
Well, I get up early and walk my dog before I walk down to the office, collect my van and start working on whatever jobs Jamie needs me to attend. There’s no such thing as a typical day, but I like it that way – keeps me on my toes!
If you had to pick the job or project you’re the proudest of working on at JAH, what would it be?
Glazebrook House was the first project I worked on for JAH and the most interesting one so far, so I’d definitely say I’m proud of what we achieved there. Taking a really old manor house and helping to modernise it for the 21st century was a challenge, but an enjoyable one. I also really liked working on our projects with Vospers, particularly the Truro branch.
In three words, how would you sum up working for JAH?
A family atmosphere. I’ve come from working for huge international companies, where you were quite anonymous and you had to make loads of phone calls to even speak to management, it’s the total opposite here. The relationships are closer and that makes the team stronger.
Did you always want to be an electrician, or did you have another career path in mind?
Funnily enough, it wasn’t even on my radar! When I was at school, they got you to write down three things you wanted to be and I wanted to be a footballer, a banker or a chef when I was 11. Being a footballer didn’t quite work out! My dad was in the building trade and I used to work with him during school holidays, there was an electrician on site one day and I got talking to him. I started doing some work with him because it sounded interesting and went from there!
What’s your favourite thing about working at JAH?
The friendly, close team for sure. You get to know everyone!
How do you think your colleagues would describe you?
Oh, straight talking for sure and probably old too, because I’m the oldest one here now Tom’s retired! I hope they’d say I was knowledgeable and good at my job though.
What would you say to someone who was thinking of coming to work at JAH?
Go for it! Jamie’s a great boss and the team are a great bunch.
So we can get to know you a little better, here are some quickfire questions:
- Chinese or Indian takeaway? Indian!
- Favourite band? Imagine Dragons, best band I’ve ever seen live.
- The best bit of a roast dinner? Hmmm…stuffing balls!
- Favourite holiday destination? In winter, it’d be snowboarding in Tignes, France and in summer, it’d be Olu Deniz in Turkey, where I’m getting married this summer.
What three things are at the top of your bucket list?
Firstly, I’d love to climb either Everest or Kilimanjaro. Secondly, I really want to go wingsuit gliding through the mountains, it’s a bit dangerous, but looks really cool, I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie, so this is my kind of thing! Lastly, I’d like to go on a cruise.
When you’re not at work, what do you like to do?
I’m pretty active, so I like snowboarding, surfing, playing football, travelling and going on holidays with my partner with lots of socialising too!
